Event Series Event Series: AI and Sustainability

Date and Time: Thursday 20 March 2025 I 11:00-12:30 CET I 15:30 – 17:00 IST (6:00 – 7:30 AM EDT) – more timezones
Location: Zoom

This webinar, organized by ITCC in collaboration with the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence’s (GPAI) RAISE project and supported by Centre d’expertise international de Montréal en intelligence artificielle (CEIMIA) will look into how food and agriculture is transitioning towards more sustainable models to respond to the impact of climate change, and will explore AI applications which can assist in sustainable agrifood systems, providing examples from industry and academia.

Agrifood systems, as defined by the Food and Agriculture Organization, aim to deliver nutritious food while enhancing livelihood opportunities and promoting environmental sustainability. How can artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly and sustainably support these goals? What tools and technologies are currently available or under development, and what do early field results reveal about their impact?

Through case studies, we will explore the impact of AI systems on the agrifood sector, including precision agriculture, protected cultivation, crop and animal production, and soil and water management. The webinar will also examine how AI can process the growing volume of data collected in modern agrifood systems to draw meaningful insights and support informed decision-making. Additionally, the panelists will discuss how to harness the potential of AI while remaining mindful of its environmental implications.

Representatives from the AI ecosystem, including industry, policy makers and academia, will address current realities, good practices, challenges and will make suggestions on how to transition towards sustainable Food Systems, harnessing the AI potential.

The webinar series on “AI and Sustainability” follows the first ITCC webinar series organized in cooperation with Reuters Events: “Empowering the Green Tech Revolution.”
